  • Where the "Aegwynn" Realm name comes from: (Courtesy of WoWWiki.)

Aegwynn was the second-to-last Guardian of Tirisfal (The Guardian of Tirisfal was a single mortal champion magically empowered by the Council of Tirisfal to secretly fight the Burning Legion on Azeroth.), and the mother of the sorcerer Medivh (Magus Medivh,[2][3][4] who may also be known as Magna Medivh, was the last Guardian of Tirisfal, an ancient line of protectors bestowed with great powers to do battle with the agents of the Burning Legion.).

Magna Aegwynn, Matriarch of Tirisfal (The following is a list of links to pages that might share the same title.), was one of the greatest Guardians of Tirisfal. The Order of Tirisfal (The Council of Tirisfal, also called the Order of Tirisfal, was the secret council of human, gnome and high elven mages charged with the selection and disposition of the Guardian of Tirisfal.) was originally forged by the High Elves (The high elves, or quel'dorei ("Children of Noble Birth" in Darnassian and "high elves" in Thalassian), are a race descended from the Highborne night elves who left Kalimdor and settled in the Eastern Kingdoms, founding Quel'Thalas.) to secretly protect the world from demonic corruption of magic, hoping to avoid the folly of their ancestors. These Guardians (The Guardian of Tirisfal was a single mortal champion magically empowered by the Council of Tirisfal to secretly fight the Burning Legion on Azeroth.) were given considerable power and longevity.

When the order was extended to humans (Humans in Warcraft are a resilient species native to the Eastern Kingdoms, where they founded seven kingdoms that banded together in the Second War.) after they too began to learn magic, it was kept as a secret Order amongst only the greatest magi. But over time, the Guardian became a puppet of the Order, and the focus was lost. The Guardian became a warden on all who practiced magic.

When Aegwynn became the Guardian, however, she refused to be manipulated. She remained focused on the matter at hand - the demonic powers at play in Azeroth.

But the same hubris that lead to the Guardian's diminishing caused their downfall.

    Biography

    Genesis

Aegwynn was trained in magic by the Guardian, Magna Scavell (Magna Scavell of the Order of Tirisfal was the Guardian for several centuries, starting around more than a millennium prior to the First War.). Aegwynn was the only girl among five apprentices. Most of the boys didn't treat her fairly, claiming that she couldn't become a wizard, but Aegwynn persevered. Before the end of her first year as an apprentice, she had mastered the lost incantations of the Meitre scrolls (The Meitre scrolls, so named because they were written by the night elf Wizard Meitre, were a collection of academic spell scrolls that were considered highly advanced.), the last surviving work of one of the powerful Highborne wizards from nine thousand years earlier (human mages were dissuaded from even reading the scrolls until well into their careers - even Quel'dorei couldn't read them until a decade into their apprenticeships).

For this feat, she was chosen to succeed Scavell as Guardian of Tirisfal. Though her fellow (male) apprentices complained, the Council maintained that she was the best and the Guardian could not afford to be anything less. The elves on the Council at the time believed that as Aegwynn had faced greater challenges to become a mage than the others, she was most deserving - Erbag (Erbag, who lived some eight centuries ago, was among the greatest of Gnomish wizards, destined for greatness, perhaps becoming an Archmage or a member of the Kirin Tor.) the Gnome chided the boys for their immaturity.

Aegwynn was subsequently supplied with the power of the Tirisfalen, and began work immediately. One of Aegwynn's first challenges was the destruction of the demon Zmodlor (Zmodlor was a minor demon, specializing in infiltration.), who had begun to possess children in a schoolhouse. Aegwynn rushed in and vanquished the demon before damage to the children could result. Erbag and Relfthra (Not much is known of Relfthra, other than the fact that he was an elder High Elf and a member of the Order of Tirisfal when Aegwynn was chosen as Guardian.) admonished her for her quick action - she rushed in without a thought to Zmodlor's grand scheme, and could have put the world at further risk. Aegwynn fired back that she couldn't allow children to suffer just because the Council favored a reactive solution to demons.

    Aegwynn vs. the Twisting Nether

500 years following her initial Guardianship, Aegwynn traveled to the world's roof, Northrend ( Furbolgs Ice trollNerubianTaunkaTuskarr Vrykul Scourge Undead

Northrend is the icy, northernmost continent of the world of Azeroth, and the source of the evil Scourge.) in order to defeat a hunting party of demons that was stalking dragons. After burning them to ashes along with the dragons, the Dark Titan himself arose from the dust. Aegwynn then battled the source of the darkness: Sargeras (Sargeras the Destroyer, the Fallen Titan, is the creator and leader of the Burning Legion.) himself, who came to Azeroth (The following is a list of links to pages that might share the same title.) in an attempt to destroy the dragons (Dragons are powerful, flying lizard-like monsters.) and consume their powers. With the help of the dragons, Aegwynn defeated the Lord of the Legion, carried and trapped his physical form near the Maelstrom (Were you looking for the RP-PvP servers named Maelstrom EU or Maelstrom US?

The Maelstrom is the gigantic rift that was created when the Well of Eternity collapsed at the Sundering of the World.), within the Tomb of Sargeras (The term Tomb of Sargeras refers to the remnants of the Temple of Elune in the ancient Kaldorei city of Suramar (coincidentally, the same city in which Tyrande, Malfurion, and Illidan grew up) that was used by the Guardian Aegwynn to contain the body of Sargeras after she supposedly defeated the Dark Titan in mortal combat.), so that it might never be rejuvenated by the powers of the Nether. Following the historic event, Aegwynn, by her own admission, grew arrogant and cocky. She felt she no longer needed to act in concert with the Council, that she had done the impossible, and thus she, not the Tirisfalen, would choose the next Guardian. But the Destroyer had manipulated her in a way that she could not perceive...

    The Birth of Medivh

(778 years later; 70 years prior to World of Warcraft...)Though powerful, Aegwynn was at her core mortal and so knew that she would have to pass on her powers, lest the demons (Hellish, twisted creatures found on the worlds conquered by the Burning Legion.) be given free reign of Azeroth. She was determined to prevent the council from manipulating her successor as they had continually tried to manipulate her.
