    Anvilmar is the first settlement of significance encountered by starting dwarves (In past ages, the dwarves rarely left the safety of their mountain fortresses.) and gnomes (The ingenious gnomes, masters of technology and the former denizens of Gnomeregan, are a race of diminutive humanoids who now live in exile in Tinker Town in the dwarven capital of Ironforge, in league with the Alliance.). It lies north in Coldridge Valley (Coldridge Valley is the starting area for young dwarven and gnomish recruits, and contains the base camp of Anvilmar.), and has a set of trainers (A trainer is a special type of NPC that gives out Class abilities or spells or Profession skills or recipes.) and some quest givers (Quest givers are NPCs that provide quests for players.), as well as a few vendors (Noun: Any NPC who buys and sells items.). The central structure of Anvilmar houses a large forge, although there are no tradeskill trainers present. It is named after the great king Modimus Anvilmar (Modimus Anvilmar was the high king of all dwarves.), the High King of all dwarves before the War of the Three Hammers (See also : War of the Three Hammers (History of Warcraft).).
