The Dreadlord (The following is a list of links to pages that might share the same title.) of the Nathrezim (Nathrezim, or Dreadlords, are intelligent and cunning demons, who were discovered and recruited to the ranks of the Burning Legion by Sargeras, the dark titan.) Balnazzar (a.) and Varimathras (Varimathras is a level ?? quest giver located in the Royal Quarter in the forsaken's Undercity.), were left to watch over the Legion's holdings in Lordaeron (The following is a list of links to pages that might share the same title.) when Archimonde (Archimonde the Defiler was the left hand of the fallen titan, Sargeras.) and the main force of the Legion left for Kalimdor (In the World of Warcraft on the world of Azeroth, there are three main continents.) to deal with the fleeing orcs (The green skinned orcs are one of the most prolific races of Azeroth.) and humans (Humans in Warcraft are a resilient species native to the Eastern Kingdoms, where they founded seven kingdoms that banded together in the Second War.), as well as the night elves (The night elves, or kaldorei, meaning "Children of the Stars" in their native tongue of Darnassian, have a long and fascinating history.) who had defeated them in ages past. Detheroc began to notice however that much time had passed without hearing a word from Archimonde.

Arthas (Arthas Menethil, Crown Prince of Lordaeron and Knight of the Silver Hand, was the son of King Terenas Menethil II and heir to the throne.) stormed into the palace and informed them that their Legion was defeated, and that their deaths would seal that fate. But they fled before he could strike. Hiding in Tirisfal Glades (On the northern coast of Lordaeron lies the eerie Tirisfal Glades.), they coerced Sylvanas (Lady Sylvanas Windrunner is a level ?? faction leader located in the Royal Quarter in Undercity.) into assisting them, and planned a coup to take back Lordaeron and rule the newly coined Plaguelands (Early in the Third War, the northern nation of Lordaeron, sovereignty of the Eastern Kingdoms, was ravaged by the Plague of Undeath, which turned a majority of its citizens into members of the undead and turned the lands into the dreaded Plaguelands.). Detheroc and his brothers assumed control of the Capital City and ambushed Arthas, but the resilient Death Knight (Death Knight is the name of two distinct orders of powerful necromancers.) battled his way through their forces and fled across the sea, to his master in Northrend ( Furbolgs Ice trollNerubianTaunkaTuskarr Vrykul Scourge Undead

Northrend is the icy, northernmost continent of the world of Azeroth, and the source of the evil Scourge.).

With Arthas gone, Detheroc and the other Dreadlords could concentrate their power in Lordaeron. But when Varimathras asked Sylvanas to join their new order, she refused, butchered his forces, and turned him to her own side. Detheroc was not so easily defeated. He used his powers of domination to control the human general, Garithos (Grand Marshal Garithos was the egotistical and ethnocentric self-proclaimed leader of remnants of the Kingdom of Lordaeron (despite his glorious past as one of the dark knights at the service of King Terenas) following its downfall during the Third War, and also de-facto leader of Alliance forces in Lordaeron.), and when Sylvanas launched her next attack upon him, he turned Garithos and his forces loose on her. But with Varimathras at her side, Sylvanas managed to keep Garithos at bay as she stormed into Detheroc's base and "tore him to bloody shreds" as Sylvanas put it.

It is possible that his death was an illusion. Among all the dreadlords who were left in charge of Lordaeron, Detheroc appeared to have had the greatest psychic powers as he was able to enslave Garithos' forces with his telepathy alone. If Detheroc yet lives, he has shown no sign, hinting at a more covert scheme than Balnazzar's. However, it has not yet been revealed how Balnazzar survived his execution, so it's just as possible that Detheroc is indeed dead for good.
