Warchief Dal'Rend (Rend) Blackhand is the ruler of the Dark Horde, and is considered to be a great threat to Thrall's mastery of the Horde.), the Dark Horde has not given up the battle to claim Azeroth (The following is a list of links to pages that might share the same title.), although Rend's forces are significantly smaller than Thrall (Thrall, son of Durotan, is the Warchief of the restored shamanistic Horde, and ruler of the red land of Durotar in Kalimdor.)'s Horde (The Horde is one of the two major political factions of the mortal races in Azeroth, its counterpart being the Alliance.). A group of warlocks (Warlocks were once mages or, in case of the orcs, shamans, who, in pursuit of ever-greater sources of power, abandoned their studies of the Nature or Arcane and delved into darker Shadow-based magic.) drives the Dark Horde, which has not relinquished the original Horde's involvement in demonic magic (Magic is a force in World of Warcraft and generally describes all non-natural effects (like most spells and powers on enchanted items) as opposed to natural effects (curses, diseases, and poisons).). The Dark Horde is essentially still fighting the Second War (The Second War was a conflict between the Alliance of Lordaeron and the Old Horde, engulfing all the lands of the Eastern Kingdoms, and ending with the victory for the Alliance.), but Rend and his group know that they stand little chance of success, despite their alliance with the black dragonflight (Though the Black Dragonflight was nearly annihilated in ages past, a few of the evil creatures have made their homes in the dry, desolate wastes of The Barrens.).

The Dark Horde's numbers are dwindling, and it has no means of recruiting new members. Realistically these evil individuals are well aware that their days are numbered. Such knowledge has given them a grim mindset: they are desperate, bitter, and completely ruthless in battle.

Firetree trolls revere the memory of Zul'jin (Zul'jin is the Warlord of the Amani forest trolls and has been chieftain of the Amani tribe since before the Second War.) and consider the Smolderthorn (Where: Blackrock Spire

    Background

The Smolderthorn trolls are one of two tribes of forest trolls that belong to the Dark Horde, a renegade group of orcs, trolls, and ogres who dwell in Blackrock Spire.) tribe acceptable allies, but despise all other forest trolls as deserters, particularly the Revantusk (This tribe of forest trolls has constructed a well fortified village on the coast of the Hinterlands.) tribe, which is loosely affiliated with Thrall's Horde. Ironically the Revantusks consider the Firetree trolls traitors for failing to leave Blackrock Spire and aid Thrall and his followers, for the Revantusks believe that Thrall leads the true Horde. In general, trolls outside the Dark Horde have long since decided that the Firetree and Smolderthorn trolls are insane for allying themselves with the black dragonflight and continuing to fight an unwinnable war (if, indeed, it can be called a war).
