  • Where the "Garithos" Realm name comes from: (Courtesy of WoWWiki.)

    Grand Marshal Garithos was the egotistical and ethnocentric self-proclaimed leader of remnants of the Kingdom of Lordaeron (Capital: City of Lordaeron (now in ruins above the Undercity)

    Past Ruler: King Terenas Menethil II

    Lordaeron was originally one of the Seven Kingdoms that were formed from the human nation of Arathor.) (despite his glorious past as one of the dark knights (Dark Knight was a term, later transformed into a title, given to the lowest ranks of Knights of Lordaeron in the human Alliance before and during the Third War.) at the service of King Terenas (King Terenas Menethil II was the devout and benevolent ruler of Lordaeron, leader of the Alliance of Lordaeron, and one of the most powerful rulers since the breaking of Arathor.)) following its downfall during the Third War (The Third War refers mainly to the events leading up to and including the second invasion of the Burning Legion, the destruction of the major Alliance lands by the Scourge, and the migration to Kalimdor, culminating in the Battle of Mount Hyjal, where the Burning Legion were defeated.), and also de-facto leader of Alliance (The Alliance (a.) forces in Lordaeron (Lordaeron is the name of the northern continent and comes from the three main Alliance races languages here : "lorn" (in Dwarven) that means "land", "daer" (in Common) that means "people" and "ronae" (in Thalassian) that means peaceful.). Even in situation the Alliance was facing after the Third War in Lordaeron, the Grand Marshal was very disdainful of non-human races of the Alliance. However he cooperated temporarily with the undead (Undead are once-living creatures animated by spiritual or supernatural forces.) that would eventually become known as the Forsaken (The Forsaken are a faction of undead who broke away from the Scourge and took control of much of the kingdom of Lordaeron, destroyed during the Third War by the death knight Arthas.), only to die at their hands.

    General

    Survivor of the Scourge (The Scourge is one of the two undead factions in Azeroth (the other being the Forsaken).)'s rampage across Lordaeron, the former Dark Knight Garithos rounded up what forces he could muster and appointed himself Grand Marshal, leading the armies in an attempt to retake the capital. However, Garithos was terribly racist, and did not enjoy having to work with the elves (An elf is a member of one of the longest lived species on Azeroth known for keen perception, amazing grace, and great spellwork.) or dwarves (In past ages, the dwarves rarely left the safety of their mountain fortresses.). It was his belief that the Alliance (The Alliance (a.) should never have accepted non-human races into it in the first place. So Garithos dealt with his racist beliefs by putting those races to work at menial tasks.

    One of his more promising generals (though Garithos would never admit it) was Kael'thas Sunstrider (Al'arVoid ReaverHigh Astromancer SolarianKael'thas Sunstrider

    The last of the Sunstrider dynasty, Kael'thas Sunstrider was the Prince of Quel'Thalas and a senior member of the Kirin Tor of Dalaran.), the elven prince of the ruined Quel'Thalas (Quel'Thalas is a lush forest region north of the continent of Lordaeron and in some cases considered its own subcontinent.), but Garithos gave him the job of overseeing the caravan of supplies being ushered out of ruined villages, though Kael wanted his people on the front lines with Garithos's main forces.

    As they were in Dalaran (Darnassus • Ironforge • Stormwind City The Exodar

    The Magical Kingdom of Dalaran, also known as the Magical Nation of Dalaran,W3Man 8, 89 is a magocratic city-state which exists within Alterac Mountains (formerly Alterac) of northern Eastern Kingdoms.), Garithos's scouting parties found that a large undead strike force was coming through the mountains to retake ({{{casual2}}}

    Misconceptions is chapter 1 of Curse of the Blood Elves.) Dalaran, and Garithos was going to lead the armies to stop them at the mountain base. But, worried that Kael and his troublesome race might mess things up, Garithos left them behind. There was a second strike force coming from the east, and the Dalaran observatories would need to be repaired for intelligence in that area.

    Despite protests from Kael that anyone could handle such a task, he performed his duties, but when he had to cross the river, he found the shipyard ruined. He was then offered help by Lady Vashj (Hydross the UnstableThe Lurker Below Leotheras the BlindFathom-Lord KarathressMorogrim TidewalkerLady Vashj

    Lady Vashj (pronunciation is somewhere between Vash and Vosh) was born more than ten thousand years ago in the city of Zin-Azshari, capital of the night elves.) and the Naga (The naga are former Highborne night elves who mutated into vengeful humanoid sea serpents.). When Garithos got word of this, he immediately went to Kael and reprimanded him for consorting with the snake-people. He didn't trust the elves as it stood, but he would brook no treason from them, and the naga had served Illidan (High Warlord Naj'entusSupremusShade of AkamaTeron GorefiendGurtogg BloodboilReliquary of SoulsMother ShahrazIllidari CouncilIllidan Stormrage

    Illidan Stormrage, known as The Betrayer, is currently the self-proclaimed Lord of Outland, ruling from the Black Temple.).

    Garithos returned to the front and sent Kael to engage the strikeforce from the east, but recalled all support, cavalry, and siege units to the front, leaving Kael very little troops and telling him to be creative. Creativity by itself was not enough to prevent the undead strikeforce from overrunning the land around Kael's position, slaughtering anybody who tried to resist and burning all structures to the ground. The elven prince soon found himself and his remaining troops surrounded and badly outnumbered.

    Kael was surely to be defeated, and would have been, had he not accepted another offer from Vashj and her naga and enlisted their aid in the destruction of the undead forces.

    Garithos returned, saw the naga leaving the scene, and, infuriated, said this was the proof he was waiting for to execute Kael and the blood elves. He arrested Kael and his servitors and locked them in the Dalaran dungeons to await their execution, under the guard of Kassan (Jailor Kassan was one of Garithos' underlings, a dedicated man in command of the Dalaran prisons.). But soon Garithos heard that Kael had escaped with Vashj's help and were fleeing through a mystic portal. Garithos sent his men, armed with explosives, to destroy the portal, but the elven engineers Kael had freed used their knowledge to construct strategic defense systems. Kael and Vashj defended the portal and eventually fled themselves.

    Garithos, though furious, turned his attention back to the advancing undead. He pushed them back into Plaguelands (Early in the Third War, the northern nation of Lordaeron, sovereignty of the Eastern Kingdoms, was ravaged by the Plague of Undeath, which turned a majority of its citizens into members of the undead and turned the lands into the dreaded Plaguelands.), but was soon faced with the Dreadlord (The following is.
